Is it actually an authentic chain or not is the upshot? A: Here is the chain as given in the edition of al-Sabbagh (p. 196-197 no. 45): Ibn al-Jawzi said: {Yahya ibn Thabit ibn Bundar [sama`uhu sahih - Siyar 20:506] informed us [anba'ana]: My father [thiqa - Siyar 19:204] reported to us [akhbarana]: al-Hasan ibn al-Husayn ibn Duma [claimed sama` he had not actually heard according to al-Khatib] reported to us: Makhlad ibn Ja`far al-Baqarhi [once thiqa but claimed sama` in his old age] reported to us: al-Hasan ibn `Ali al-Qattan [Ibn `Alluya, thiqa] reported to us: Isma`il ibn `Isa al-`Attar [thiqa acc. to al-Khatib] reported to us: Abu Hudhayfa Ishaq ibn Bishr al-Qurashi [discarded acc. to Muslim and al-Daraqutni] reported to us}*: Ja`far ibn al-Harith [weak though some said thiqa] said: From Shahr ibn Hawshab [saduq]: "Abu al-Darda' entered the mosque of Bayt al-Maqdis one day...." (*) From Yahya to Ishaq: this chain is relied upon by the Hanbali Maqadisa of Damascus such as Ibn Qudama, `Abd al-Wahid and `Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi in their works. The chain is very weak because of Abu Hudhayfa Ishaq ibn Bishr al-Qurashi al-Bukhari, and Allah Most High knows best. Note: Ibn Hibban in his Majruhin (1: 135-137 no. 59) confuses the latter with the forger Ishaq ibn Bishr al-Kahili cf. al-Halabi, al-Kashf al-Hathith (p. 64 no. 121). GF Haddad 2009-03-19
