Is There Anything More Important Than Prayer?
@ferizandra
Translated from Indonesian
Senegal national team head coach Pape Thiaw has become a hot topic in America due to a statement he made during a press conference, regarding the Friday prayer worship.
Journalist:
"Today there's extremely strong wind in the state of New Jersey, and security personnel are advising delegation members not to go out for your safety… why did you still go out to perform the prayer…?"
Pape Thiaw:
"Is there anything more important than prayer? I think that's none of your business... you fear the wind, while we fear Allah, the One who created the wind… we come here for an entertainment match, and then we forget that we were created to worship Allah…
Even if the FIFA World Cup final were held today and we were one of the finalists, we would still go out to perform the Friday prayer, even if it meant losing the championship title…
Don't lecture us about our religious rituals and obligations…"

On the Importance of Stillness
@harrishanbalite
Shaykh Ibn al-'Arabi (ق) on the Importance of Stillness
Thus, the companion of travel is with the Prophetic statement: "Our Lord descends every night to the lowest heaven." Meanwhile, the companion of stationary residence is with the Divine statement: "The Most Merciful rose over the Throne." [Quran 20:5]
Absolute stillness is far more entitled to priority than movement. This is because the servant is explicitly commanded to remain still under the running currents of divine destinies patiently awaiting whatever God brings to him through the passage of night and day. God stated in condemnation of whoever tries to outrun or force destiny by his own effort: "My servant rushed ahead of Me on his own, so I have forbidden Paradise for him."

Saadi
Even if you possess the strength of an elephant or the combat skills of a lion, in my view,
Peace is still far better than war.
When all options, strategies, and solutions fail,
Only then is it
permissible to resort to the sword (force).
If the enemy desires peace, do not turn away from it,
But if they seek war, do not pull back your reins (do not retreat).
For if he closes the door to battle,
Your honor, value, and grandeur will increase a
thousandfold.
And if he is the one who initiates the fight,
God (the Ultimate Judge) will not hold you accountable on the Day of Judgment.
You must be ready for battle when malice and enmity arise,
Because showing kindness to a malicious enemy is a mistake."
"It is just a poem but the entirety of our current diplomacy is captured in these few short verses."

In the year of Ifriqiya
@sakhr4549
Translated from Arabic
A rock inscription 1400 years old that summarizes an entire history!
A man named "Amr ibn Rabia al-Thaqafi" wanted to leave a fleeting mark, so he wrote on the rock:
"I am Amr ibn Rabia al-Thaqafi, I wrote this in the year of Ifriqiya.."
What is the "year of Ifriqiya"?
It is the year 27 AH, the year when the Islamic conquests set out to conquer Ifriqiya (present-day Tunisia and its surroundings) under the leadership of Abdullah ibn Saad ibn Abi al-Sarh.
In that time, people did not date by numbers, but by clues and great events that shook the world and remained etched in the collective memory.
Amr lived and died, and his writing remained a living witness to the first generation of conquests. A piece of history speaking to us today!

Muslims Are Not a Race
@BinhamidAli
“While postmodern thinkers claim to reject truth claims and moral objectivity in favor of a mode of action, they still have definite answers to ultimate questions and unshakeable commitments to their own beliefs. Their failure to admit the performative self-contradiction in arguing against rationality or in a commitment to moral relativism does not obligate us to participate in ideas that are incoherent at best. To argue against truth, or to be committed to moral relativism, is to presuppose both the objective truth and the morality of one’s own position.”
“Such thinkers do not want to hear about a soul that can transcend its egotism or about misfortune being a test from God or about the impossibility of perfect justice in this world or about responding to evil with good. Postmodernists have given themselves a way of speaking about such abiding teachings as nothing more than delusions or tricks used to maintain a system of domination where the rich take from the poor, men take from women, and whites take from people of color. They believe they are liberating people (or “bodies”), but they also have different answers to ultimate questions. They believe one can only be realistic and sophisticated about racism (and other social ills) if one stops taking religious teachings seriously.”
“The problem with this approach—defining Islamophobia as racism, and marshalling ideas like racialization and structural racism—is that it implies that it simply does not matter what Muslims believe or do or what kind of human beings they are. It only matters that Muslims are not white and that Islam is the religion of non-white people. It means no reasons other than race can explain why a non-Muslim would be hostile toward Muslims or why a powerful institution might perpetuate antagonism toward Muslims. Islam is only interesting or important insofar as it is a racial signifier. When we teach people to respond to anti-Muslim bigotry by calling all such bigotry “racism,” we are training them to believe Islam is no more meaningful than an accent that allows white people to identify non-whites.

Al-Ghazālī’s Definition of the Intellect (ʿAql)
“The intellect (ʿaql) has two principal meanings.
It may refer to knowledge (ʿilm) of the true nature of things, which resides in the heart. It may also refer to the faculty that perceives and possesses knowledge, i.e. the subtle inner reality that knows. Knowledge is a quality, while the knower is the entity in which that quality resides.
Therefore, the intellect can mean either the knowledge itself or the faculty that perceives knowledge.
The saying, “The first thing God created was the intellect,” refers to the intellect as the perceiving faculty, not as knowledge itself, since knowledge cannot exist without a subject in which it resides. Another narration states that God said to the intellect, “Draw near,” and it drew near; then He said, “Retreat,” and it retreated. Thus, the terms heart (qalb), spirit (rūḥ), soul (nafs), and intellect (ʿaql) each possess multiple meanings, including both physical and subtle spiritual realities.”

Moulding Ourselves to the Prophetic Reality ﷺ
@RealHasanSpiker
Far too often, our everyday human condition amounts to the endless fluctuation of our state from one anxiety and frustration to another, as we (purport to) seek an elusive satisfaction and future "success."
Real success as a human being is really very straightforward, and it is always now.[1] It is moulding yourself to the Prophetic Reality ﷺ
1
inwardly,
by seeking to make contact with his ﷺ presence in every moment, and thence embarking on the path to the presence of God, and
2
outwardly,
by participating in his ﷺ Sunna, the principle, foundation, and condition for which is beautiful character.
It is precisely seeking to realise our share in the Prophetic Reality ﷺ in every moment, in every now, inwardly and outwardly, that not only transfigures everyday life and chases anxiety and frustration away, but moreover ensures that that elusive future success will indeed one day be realised, as the fruit of this succession of blessed nows, in which we sanctify our everyday moments through a love of the Best of Creation that is manifested inwardly and outwardly.

The Sacred Law: Principles for Human Flourishing
@RealHasanSpiker
A central reason Muslims have never yet flourished on a large scale in the West is our almost wholly negative attitude towards shari'a or sacred law. Negative shari'a should pivot on clear red lines, not a paranoia about whether or not everyday life is "halal."
The real purpose of sacred law is in any case positive; it provides principles for maximized human flourishing in accordance with the lofty vision of human nature that has been revealed to us, not a raft of complexes and prohibitions.
The true Muslim's natural assumption when encountering a new situation is not only that it is "halal", but that its halal status need not even be investigated. God created all that is in the earth for you; everything on this earth was created for our benefit, in order to help us in actualising the holistic flourishing demanded by our nature; it was not created so that we could be suspicious, uneasy, and paranoid about every unfamiliar thing that we encounter.

Your Soul Matters
Tayaabah Qazi
Science is at a loss in understanding the concept of the soul. In most instances, it denies the existence of the soul and chalks up human experience only as a combination of physiological and chemical reactions. Recent scientific advances continue to point at an unseen force possessing the human body that has escaped the modern tools of measurement. To account for the presence of fitra (original disposition or natural constitution or innate nature based on goodness and purity) in totality of the human experience, secular scientists give it fancy names such as mindfulness or spiritualism or meta cognition, and more. Though science is lagging in grasping the concept of soul, religious traditions describe it from a different vantage point.
Islam teaches us that human life comes into being when a soul is unified with a material body. A soul is what anchors the fitra to the human body, a vessel for the existence on Earth. (more)

The Most Subtle Insights
@ShamsTameez
"The purified Ṣūfīs possess the most subtle insights, the most sanctified secrets, the soundest thoughts, are most occupied with their Lord inwardly and outwardly, remember Him by night and by day, are the most obedient in submission, the truest in belief, the most sincere in intention in His obedience, the most reflective concerning His affair, the firmest in faith, the strongest in passionate love, the most diligent in seeking Him, and the most earnest in calling upon Him in fear and hope.
Therefore, there is no doubt that what they believe and affirm is secure from error, and most worthy of acceptance and faith. It is not to be imagined regarding these noble and eminent men that they would hold a belief contrary to Islam and the religious community, nor that it would oppose what is required by sound reason and decisive proofs."

(Educated) woman being housewife is a waste?
@safwanSpiker7
“(Educated) woman being housewife is a waste, weakness and unfortunate event” is a very deceptive capitalist propaganda designed to make people especially women guilt-trip into their own goals. Capitalism, to which liberalism and feminism are tied, is concerned with capital only.
If a person is not generating capital by putting his or her knowledge and skill to use, in the market, he is principally not even worthy of being a human as per the liberal thinkers’ definition of human rights and possession—they were the ones who created the human rights ideology—yet alone so-called human rights.

Everything in existence stands in relation to The One
@harrishanbalite
And he [al-Ghazali] stated in the book Mishkāt al-Anwār: 'Everything in existence stands in relation to Him, the Exalted, in terms of apparent reality, just as light stands in relation to the sun'.
Then he said: 'This is the ultimate end of all goals, and the final boundary of all quests. It is known by those who possess true knowledge, and rejected by those who remain ignorant of it. It belongs to that hidden, treasured knowledge which none know except those who have true experiential knowledge of Allah. Yet when they articulate it, none reject it except those who are deluded concerning Allah.'
And the Sheikh [Ibn ‘Arabi], may his secret be sanctified, stated in the second chapter of Al-Futūḥāt al-Makkiyyah:
'Indeed, the Real (al-Ḥaqq), the Exalted, is an Existent by His very Essence, Absolute Being (Mutlaq al-Wujūd) unconditioned by any other, nor is He caused by anything, nor is He a cause for anything. Rather, He is the creator of all effects and causes, the Sovereign, the All-Holy, Who has always been and always will be. And the cosmos exists through Allah, not through itself; its existence is conditioned by the existence of the Real in His Essence. Therefore, the existence of the cosmos can never be sound or real except by the existence of the Real (al-Ḥaqq).'"

Political Islam keeps failing for the same reason Islamic Modernism failed
@kelevitch
Political Islam keeps failing for the same reason Islamic Modernism failed.
Both are trying to solve a civilizational problem with political tools.
And nobody wants to say this clearly because it implicates everyone.
When the Ottomans fell, the Muslim world lost the last functioning institutional infrastructure that connected Islamic epistemology[1] to social organization. What colonialism actually destroyed was the transmission belt between revelation and civilization-building.
Political Islam emerged precisely in that vacuum.
The Brotherhood, Hamas, Ennahda, the AKP, they’re not restoring that infrastructure. They’re competing for state power within the Westphalian system[2] that replaced it which is just an assimilation, the Muslim world is more dependent on Western institutional frameworks today than in 1924. That’s a failure of diagnosis.
The disease was epistemological yet kept prescribing political medicine.
They wanted to islamize the state. What needed islamizing was the method of knowledge production. A century later, Muslim universities still rank by Western metrics, Muslim economists still work within Western frameworks, and Muslim political theorists still debate within categories Rousseau n his kinds invented.
You cannot restore a civilization by winning elections inside the civilization that replaced yours.

Defining Noetic Sciences
[Dislaimer: Not from an islamic viewpoint, but related.]
While science observes and experiments in our largely physical world, spiritual wisdom practices on the other hand allow us to explore, describe, and express some of the deepest mysteries of being human. How we can overcome our baser instincts. Practices for making love and compassion central orienting principles in our lives.
These two ways — of gaining knowledge through scientific exploration and of gaining deep knowing through direct experience — have generally remained separate. Some people value science. Others value spirituality and direct experience. IONS values both. It is time to bring them back together — allowing each to inform one another, weakening neither, but rather strengthening our overall understanding of reality.
Our premise: at the nexus of inner knowing (noetics) and outer investigation (science), we will discover entirely new ways of being and of doing that uplift humanity and advance thriving for all.

Western Leaders Play Their Part in Our Charade Democracies.
@Jonathan_K_Cook
Two pronounced – and inverse – trends in western societies have long been observable, and yet they are rarely noticed or discussed.
There is a reason for that. These trends tell us something deeply revealing about how our societies are shaped by structural forces – forces that individual office holders can do little to shape through their own values or personalities.
These forces operate rather like laws of nature – though there is nothing natural about them. They are the very opposite of how most westerners imagine power works – that is, that it derives from the will of the people and is democratically accountable…

Israel The “Test-Tube State”
@Jonathan_K_Cook
Israel might be termed a “test-tube state”, one originally cooked up – like apartheid South Africa – in the laboratories of western settler colonialism.
But, even more so than apartheid South Africa, Israel has over time become deeply useful to western corporations, especially the most lucrative of them, in the military-industrial complex.
Israel has transformed the Palestinian territories into its own laboratories, where – via the Shin Bet and Israeli military – corporations can test out new forms of surveillance, crowd control, imprisonment strategies, warfare, weapons development, and Artificial Intelligence programmes.
Israel helps the corporations analyse the ability of humans to endure or resist these various forms of oppression, and as a consequence make adjustments and refinements.
And finally, Israel helps the corporations by testing, through its criminal endeavours, ways to improve public relations and media strategies that obscure the horrifying reality, as well as schemes for eroding international legal norms and constraints.
University research departments are often funded to do similar kinds of work, but they cannot compete with the giant, real-world, real-time laboratory offered by Israel.
The technologies and strategies Israel is testing are all highly lucrative. Western corporations understand that they will be essential in securing their futures in the face of greater popular resistance as austerity continues to grip, environmental degradation – such as river pollution – increases, and the climate breaks down further.

For the most part, whatever can be conceptualized and defined properly whether it’s from revelation or kashf or senses or intellect, can be rationally demonstrated, verified and established based on ontological and logical first principles.
I mean to say indirectly that not all definable and conceptualized things, are demonstrable, like atheism.
(And this does of course not) include Absolute Existence, because there is no definition of Absolute Unity as it neither has genus nor differentia.

A Perennial Problem: Is Islam the Only Valid Path to God? | The Humble "I"
How then should the above verse [2:62] be read? Scholars of tafsir, along with their belief that the Qur’an’s message now supersedes all previous heavenly teachings, offer these interpretations for the above verse: [i] It is said to refer to those seekers of truth who believed in the imminent arrival of the final Prophet – like Habib al-Najjar, Qays b. Sa‘adah, Waraqah b. Nawfal, Zayd b. ‘Amr b. Nufayl, Bahirah the Monk, Salman al-Farsi and Abu Dharr al-Ghiffari. Some of them reached the Prophet ﷺ and accepted Islam at his hand. Others didn’t reach him, but are nonetheless included among those who believe in Allah and the Last Day. [ii] It refers to the believers of previous nations, following the prophets of their respective times. [iii] It’s claimed to refer to those Jews and Christians who, prior to accepting Islam in the time of the Prophet ﷺ, followed the unaltered teachings of Moses and Jesus; peace be upon them both.

(99+) When Islam discusses freedom | Martino Diez - Academia.edu
Did classical Islam talk about freedom? The answer, without a shadow of a doubt, is “Yes”. But not in the disciplines that one would instinctively think of. Indeed, the term does not occupy much space in the classical treatises on law or political theory, where the emphasis is placed on God’s rights and the justice dispensed by the ruler. It does have a central place, on the other hand, in the theological reflection of the first generations of Muslims. Are human beings free? Or are they “constrained” by divine omnipotence, which predestines them to hell or paradise? The nascent Islamic community was to give antithetical answers to this question, right from the Omayyad age (661-750), when the two schools of the
Jabriyya
(predestinationists) and the
Qadariyya
(partisans of free will) emerged.

So much so then, for the spurious claims of the one-eyed Judeo-Christian western civilization and its ‘colored house slaves’ around the world. So much so, then, for the local one-eyed ‘house slave’ here in my native island of Trinidad who insists that Muslims must remain a part of ‘mainstream society’ -even when that mainstream is heading for the hell-fire.
When a ship is sinking and you cannot prevent it from sinking, you have to get off that ship, and urge others as well to do so. The ship of the world is now sinking! The evidence is all around us as plainly visible as daylight! But those who are blind cannot see that the ship is sinking. They use their checkbooks, or the barrels of their guns, to impose themselves around the world as leaders. The blind then lead the blind until all are lost and will be drowned like the people of Noah (peace be upon him).
