TTL: A Perennial Problem: Is Islam the Only Valid Path to God? | The Humble "I"

How then should the above verse [2:62] be read? Scholars of tafsir, along with their belief that the Qur’an’s message now supersedes all previous heavenly teachings, offer these interpretations for the above verse: [i] It is said to refer to those seekers of truth who believed in the imminent arrival of the final Prophet – like Habib al-Najjar, Qays b. Sa‘adah, Waraqah b. Nawfal, Zayd b. ‘Amr b. Nufayl, Bahirah the Monk, Salman al-Farsi and Abu Dharr al-Ghiffari. Some of them reached the Prophet ﷺ and accepted Islam at his hand. Others didn’t reach him, but are nonetheless included among those who believe in Allah and the Last Day. [ii] It refers to the believers of previous nations, following the prophets of their respective times. [iii] It’s claimed to refer to those Jews and Christians who, prior to accepting Islam in the time of the Prophet ﷺ, followed the unaltered teachings of Moses and Jesus; peace be upon them both.

TTL: Justice: The Absolute | Principle Guidelines for Scholars in Political Engagement

Ka’b ibn Ujrah said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to us while we were a group of nine and said,

“Indeed tyrannical rulers will come after me and whoever affirms their lies and supports their oppression has nothing to do with me and I have nothing to do with him, and he will not drink with me at the fountain in Paradise. Whoever does not affirm their lies and does not support their oppression is part of me and I am part of him, and he will drink with me at the fountain in Paradise.” Sunan An-Nasa’i 4207

TTL: We Are American Muslims and We Are Here to Stay | About Islam

To “USA Woman” and everyone out there who thinks like her, here is my message:  you are fighting a losing battle, so give up your hateful crusade.  Whatever vision of “America” you have conjured up in your head . . . undoubtedly a white, Christian, and homogeneous one . . . it is simply not a reality.  And why would we want it to be?  Religious freedom, diversity, respect and tolerance are what make this country great.

Educate yourself.  Get out of your narrow box.  Let go of your illogical fears.  Talk to a Muslim woman.  Approach her with an open mind and a smile.  I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised.  Because the reality is, we Muslim women — however we are dressed — are strong, educated, passionate and positive members of this country.  We ARE Americans.  And we are here to stay.

TTL: How My Non-Muslim Family Members Have Made Me A Stronger Muslim

Converts like me often face challenges from their non-Muslim family members and friends.  Rather than letting these difficulties dishearten us or make us doubt our faith, let us search for the lessons that can be learned from each interaction, from each heartache.  And when and if we are blessed to have non-Muslim family members who support us, let us cherish them and go forth and share that love with a fellow convert who is struggling.

TTL: Can We Trust Hadith Literature: Understanding the Process of Transmission and Preservation | Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research

How has Islamic civilization maintained the rich literary heritage of Ḥadīth developed by early Muslim scholars? What guarantee is there that the collections of ḥadīths in our possession have reached us accurately and that they were compiled by their purported authors?

TTL: Islam Is the Solution America Needs | The Muslim Skeptic

The deeper reality is people are dissatisfied with their lives. People are suffering. And they blame the establishment. The opportunity for Muslims is to understand why in this historical moment people are dissatisfied, why they are suffering, and to realize that, at its core, all suffering in this dunya is due to distance from the Creator. If we truly believe this and we truly care for our fellow man, we have a duty to show people a better way, namely, Islam. So how do we do this? How do we connect these dots for ourselves and for others?

TTL: The Delusion of Individualism Spreading to the Muslim World | The Muslim Skeptic

The author fancies herself unique because she is by breaking off from the herd of people wanting to get married. Ironically, the global trend is people not wanting to get married, so she isn’t unique or special at all. Nonetheless, she argues that an individualistic lifestyle is incompatible with marriage… Well, of course an individualistic lifestyle isn’t going to sit well with marriage or any kind of meaningful relationship for that matter! Prioritizing yourself over others is not a recipe for successfully connecting with other human beings. The real question is: Is an individualistic lifestyle fulfilling? Will it lead to happiness and contentment?

TTL: The Mardin Conference – Understanding Ibn Taymiyyah’s Fatwa

Ibn Taymiyah, in his fatwa, recognizes that the world is not to be divided simplistically into Islamic lands and non-Islamic lands, unlike many before him who held to that dualistic view.

He recognized that there is a third type of society which has aspects of both. Furthermore, he stated that Muslims can live in such societies as long as they are free to practice their religion and that everyone should be afforded their rights.

TTL: Knowledge of the Heart | Gornahoor

Light is the most common symbol of knowledge, so that it is natural that solar light represent direct knowledge, that is, intuitive knowledge, which is that of pure intellect, and that lunar light represent reflective knowledge, that is, discursive knowledge, which is that of reason.

the essential difference that exists between rationalism and true intellectuality.

TTL: (99+) When Islam discusses freedom | Martino Diez -

Did classical Islam talk about freedom? The answer, without a shadow of a doubt, is “Yes”. But not in the disciplines that one would instinctively think of. Indeed, the term does not occupy much space in the classical treatises on law or political theory, where the emphasis is placed on God’s rights and the justice dispensed by the ruler. It does have a central place, on the other hand, in the theological reflection of the first generations of Muslims. Are human beings free? Or are they “constrained” by divine omnipotence, which predestines them to hell or paradise? The nascent Islamic community was to give antithetical answers to this question, right from the Omayyad age (661-750), when the two schools of the

 (predestinationists) and the

 (partisans of free will) emerged.

TTL: Ten Major Signs of the Last Day - Has One Just Occurred

So much so then, for the spurious claims of the one-eyed Judeo-Christian western civilization and its ‘colored house slaves’ around the world. They claim that mankind is witnessing unprecedented progress, that the present is the best of all ages, that the world keeps on growing better and better, and that modern western civilization has rendered all previous civilizations, including Islam, moribund and obsolete!

So much so, then, for the local one-eyed ‘house slave’ here in my native island of Trinidad who insists that Muslims must remain a part of ‘mainstream society’ -even when that mainstream is heading for the hell-fire.

When a ship is sinking and you cannot prevent it from sinking, you have to get off that ship, and urge others as well to do so. The ship of the world is now sinking! The evidence is all around us as plainly visible as daylight! But those who are blind cannot see that the ship is sinking. They use their checkbooks, or the barrels of their guns, to impose themselves around the world as leaders. The blind then lead the blind until all are lost and will be drowned like the people of Noah (peace be upon him).
