Q & A
Salam `alaykum:

1) What is the ruling on cursing Yazid bin Mu'awiya [may Allah be pleased with is father --musa] according to the madhhab of Imam Ahmad? I have heard that al-Hafidh Ibn al-Jawzi permitted it, writing a book entitled "al-Radd 'ala al-Muta'assib al-'Anid, al-Mani' min Dhamm Yazid" in which he states that the opinion of Imam Ahmad on the issue was that he permitted it. This was also cited by al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar al-Haytami in his "al-Sawa'iq al-Muhriqa". Please clarify the issue.

Al-Haytami cites Ibn al-Jawzi's citation of a report by Qadi Abu Ya`la al-Farra' that he permitted it but according to Abu Ya`la's son the contrary is true. The latter report sounds more like what Imam Ahmad would say, but Allah knows best.

2) Can you name some renowned Hanbali scholars who have condemned/criticized Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah)'s 'aqida?

Al-Tufi as mentioned by Ibn Hajar in al-Durar al-Kamina; Mustafa Ahmad Hasan al-Shatti al-Athari the Mufti of Syria; Muhammad ibn `Abd al-Rahman ibn `Afaliq; `Afif al-Din ibn `Abd Allah ibn Dawud; `Abd Allah al-Qadumi al-Nabulusi.
