Sheikhs Bin Bazz ... (may Allah be merciful with him) (2)

al-salamu `alaykum

Here's something from one of the list members.

As-Salaamu 'Alaikum,

Sheikh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him) was one of the foremost students of Sheikh Muibn Ibrahim Aal-ash-Sheikh, who was the grandson of Sheikh 'Abdul-Latif ibn 'Abdir-Rahman ibn Hasan ibn ash-Sheikh Muibn 'Abdil-Wahhab al-Hanbal(may Allah have mercy on them all).

He was one of the as mentioned by Sheikh Bakr Abu Zaid in his work al-Madkhal al-Mufassal ila Fiqh al-Imaam Aibn  For example he claims that Sheikh Ibn Baz would very frequently refer to Haashiyah Ibn Qasim 'Ala Rawdh al-Murbi' for issues of Fiqh (2/775). This is the same Abu Qasim who collected the Fatwa of Ibn Taymiya.

I have heard many claim that he was a Mujtahid and if this was really so, then as we know from the Saheeh of the Math-hab is that it is impermissible for him to make Taqleed, and obligatory upon him to make Ijtihad (Insaf 11/138). For this reason, in many of his writings (as mentioned by Sheikh Bakr 2/850 & 873) if not all, he opposes the Math-hab, and yes agrees with the Dhaahiriyah (as was the case with other Mujtihidin, such as Ibn Taymiya and the issue of three Talaqs).

But he is generally regarded to be a Hanbalby the of Najd, and Allah knows best.

Was-Salaamu 'Alaikum
