The Inadequacy Of Rational Consideration

Now why would this be a “sensible” issue at all?

Obviously because "man does not live of bread alone". Man is a strange, but potentially wonderful being who has not only a body to satisfy, and not just a soul to entertain, but also a third vital and essential element: the spiritual, or the intellect (it is a 'light').
As a famous author said: "We are made of matter, that is to say of sensible density and of 'solidification', but at the center of our being is the suprasensible and transcendent reality, which is infinitely thundering and infinitely peaceful."
There will be great harm and ultimately destruction if not all those three elements of human life work in harmony with “the meaning of life, or the center of being”.

Certainly We sent Our apostles with clear arguments (proofs), and sent down with them the Book (the Scripture) and the balance that men may conduct themselves with (live in) equity; ... Sura 57, verse 25

This is an item from the Islamic Tradition where it has found its clearest statement, confirming the essential doctrines of all great religious traditions of mankind.
The difference is in the fact that while Islam confirms the older traditions which we have to call “divine” - in principle - , because they are not of human making, but of supra-human origin, Islam also adapted these spiritual teachings to the later stages of mankind, in which we are in today:
The last times before the end of the world as we know it.

Whoever looks forward to the meeting with Allah, (let him know that) the term appointed by Allah (Allah‘s reckoning) will then most surely come (is surely nigh); and He is the Hearing (the Hearer), the Knowing (the Knower). Sura 29 verse 5

Generally speaking: Islam is the truth, despite the actions of various political movements and groups and despite its reputation in the media, which always too eagerly focuses on the spectacular and superficial. As a matter of fact, the religion of Islam is the spiritual home for some 3000 million people! The object of this essay is not to discuss radical Islamic options but to invite to Islam as the tolerant and compassionate way of life (dīn) for this earthly life and for the next.

Now then why would Islam be a “sensible” issue for modern man or woman who “got it all”?

Well - for those who don't feel the need for God - Allah and for a spiritual life and who are satisfied with a life of ease and pleasure, there is not much more to say.
As a famous author once observed: Man "has sunk below his own true nature, for one cannot be fully man except by way of God, and the earth is beautiful only by virtue of its link with Heaven."
Those who are pleased with life in this world, should know that times are changing and so do people's hearts (souls) - and this affair is in God's - Allah's hands only.

Surely those who do not hope in Our meeting and are pleased with this world's life and are content with it, and those who are heedless of Our communications: (As for) those, their abode is the fire because of what they earned. Sura 10, verses 7/8

This life of course is no paradise and is not meant to be, how much it could be wished for by those who want "fulfillment” for their weird whims and desires - even at any cost so it seems, probably to make up for the fact that they eventually will have to leave it all behind. Allah says in the Qur'ān:

Every soul will taste (of) death, then you will be brought back to Us. Sura 29-57

The truth of this cannot be seen by those whose heart is covered with 'rust' (of sins) and (spiritual) darkness, it is however there at every moment. We can forget it, but Allah will never forget. Read what He says in the Holy Qur'ān, also about those who pretend to believe:

Do men imagine that they will be left (at ease) (left alone), because they say: We believe, and will not be tested with affliction (and will not be tried)? Sura 29-2

The divine word applies to all, believers and disbelievers. before, now and for ever.

This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favor on you and chosen for you Islam as a religion; but whoever is compelled by hunger, not inclining willfully to sin, then surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. Sura 5, verse 3

If Islam is the Truth, it has to be universal and every human being must have the potential to realize this truth. In ancient times the state of witnessing the Divine Truth and to live accordingly was the normal state for man. Decadence occured only after 'the Fall' - meaning the declining cycles of time-epochs in human history, ever faster move toward the final ending.

Because if Islam is the truth it must be the same truth for 'prehistoric' - though not ape-like man, as for modern man.
( If Allah is One, and the soul is One, life is One. )
And this truth, in essence must be the same and it is the same for young and old, for man or woman, it is even the same for animals and plants, for the minutest mineral in earth as it is the the galaxies above, and they all witness to it.

The Truth, al-Haqq, is One, although It has many names in the various religious and metaphysical doctrines of mankind, such as "The Ultimaly Reality”, the "Supreme or Absolute Truth”, God”, "Allah”, may His Majesty be exalted.”

And the best of men was sent by this God Almighty and All-Compassionate to show the way from the darkness of ignorance to the light of truth in the Divine Presence, Prophet Muhammad may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
