Dhu l-Nūn al-Miṣrī was asked about the bearers of the Quran, who they are.
He replied, “They are those upon whom the clouds of yearning have poured, who have worn out their knees and bodies (in prayer), who are cloaked in fear and sorrow, who have drunk from the cup of certainty, and who have disciplined themselves with the discipline of those who possess certainty.”

The blessings and peace of Allah on the Prophet, his Family, and his Companions.
