To stir the flames of racism and hatred against brown people in general and against Muslims in particular, and to fight the idea of Islam, lies are mass-produced, such as this one: that Muslims are out to kill and capture Jews, (and whoever else?). [B1.6]

A1 The Quranic Verse 33-26

{ وَأَنزَلَ الَّذِينَ ظَاهَرُوهُم مِّنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مِن صَيَاصِيهِمْ وَقَذَفَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الرُّعْبَ فَرِيقًا تَقْتُلُونَ وَتَأْسِرُونَ فَرِيقًا }

{And He brought down from their strongholds (or forts)[2] those from the People of the Book[1] who supported the enemy alliance, and cast horror into their hearts[3]. You ˹believers˺ killed some[4], and took others captive.[5]}
This is verse 33:26[6]

A2 Context of the verse: Banu Qurayzah

The expression {the People of the Book} ”refers (here) to the Banu Qurayzah, the last remaining Jewish tribe in Madinah; the others, Banu Nadir and Banu Qaynuqã', had previously been exiled from Madinah for breaking their treaty with the Prophet and the Muslims. TSQ[L]

”After the confederate troops had abandoned the siege of Madinah, the Muslims laid siege to the tribe of Banu Qurayzah for having plotted against the Muslims and having actively supported the efforts of the Quraysh and their allies.
Their intention was nothing less than to destroy the Muslims and Islam.

”Rather than fighting, the Banu Qurayzah retreated to their strong-holds, and the Muslims surrounded them for twenty-five days IK. Eventually, both sides agreed to let the matter of the tribe's treason be decided by Sa’d ibn Mu’adh, a prominent Madinan Companion and the leader of the Aws tribe, who had been a close ally of the Banu Qurayzah.
Despite the pleas of many in his tribe, Ibn Mu’adh decreed, "My judgment is that their fighters should be killed and their children and wealth should be seized" IK[L].

”The Prophet is said to have approved of Ibn Mu'adh's judgment, saying, "You have judged in accord with the judgment of the Sovereign." IK[L]
{Some you slew} refers to the adult males who were offered the opportunity to renounce the treason of their tribe and accept Islam or be executed. A few accepted Islam[n2], but the majority (between four and nine hundred, depending upon the account) did not do so and were executed.
{Some you took captive} then refers to the women and children, who were not slain. TSQ[L]

A3 Sa’d ibn Mu’adh from the Aws tribe

”Sa‘d was a man of justice; like ‘Umar he had been against sparing the prisoners at Badr, and their opinion had been confirmed by the Revelation. Many men of Quraysh who had been ransomed on that occasion had come out against them at Uhud and again at "the Battle of the Trench"; and in this last campaign, the strength of the invaders had been largely due to the hostile activities of the exiled Jews of Bani Nadir. If these had been put to death instead of being allowed to go into exile, the invading army might have been halved, and Bani Qurayzah would no doubt have remained faithful to their pact with the Prophet. The arguments offered by past experience were not in favour of leniency, to say the least. ML231[L]

Moreover, Sa‘d had himself been one of the envoys to Qurayzah at the moment of crisis and had seen the ugliness of their treachery when they had thought that the defeat of the Muslims was certain. It was true that if he gave a severe judgement most of the men and women of Aws would blame him, but that consideration would not have weighed much with Sa‘d at any time and now it weighed not at all, for he was convinced that he was dying. He cut short the pleas of his clansmen with the words: “The time has come for Sa‘d, in the cause of God, to give no heed unto the blame of the blamer.” ML231[L]

A4 A ChatGPT Summary

The story of the Jewish tribe of Qurayzah is a significant event in Islamic history, particularly during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Here’s a simplified explanation:

The Qurayzah tribe was one of the three major Jewish tribes living in Yathrib (which later became known as Medina) during the time of the Prophet Muhammad. The other two tribes were the Banu Qaynuqa and the Banu Nadir.

During Muhammad’s time in Medina, there were tensions between the Muslims and the Jewish tribes due to various political, social, and religious factors[10]. Despite the Prophet’s efforts to establish peaceful relations, conflicts arose, and the Jewish tribes often plotted against the Muslim community.

One of the most significant events involving the Qurayzah tribe occurred during the Battle of the Trench (also known as the Battle of the Confederates) in 627 CE. This battle took place when a coalition of Arab tribes, along with some Jewish tribes[11], launched an attack on Medina to eradicate Islam.

To defend the city, the Prophet Muhammad and his companions dug a trench around Medina, which served as a defensive strategy. Despite being outnumbered, the Muslims successfully defended the city, and the siege was lifted.

However, some members [12] of the Qurayzah tribe had secretly conspired with the enemy during the battle. When the battle ended, the Prophet Muhammad, along with his companions, confronted the Qurayzah tribe about their betrayal. After a brief siege, the Qurayzah tribe surrendered to the Muslims.

The matter of what to do with the Qurayzah tribe was then referred to Sa’d ibn Mu’adh, a prominent figure from the Aws tribe and an ally of the Muslims. Sa’d ruled that the men of the Qurayzah tribe should be executed for their treachery, while their women and children would be taken as captives.

This event is often cited as a historical controversy and has been subject to various interpretations and debates. Some argue that the punishment meted out to the Qurayzah tribe was severe, while others contend that it was a justifiable response to their betrayal during a time of war.[13]

Overall, the incident involving the Qurayzah tribe serves as a significant episode in Islamic history, highlighting the complexities of intertribal relations and the challenges faced by the early Muslim community in Medina.[14]

B1 An Example of how this verse is used against Islam and Muslims

B1.1 What happened?

In the Belgian parliament, there was a Brussel's community award ceremony for people who had contributed in various fields for better integration of the immigrant community in Belgium, organised by the Socialist Party. One person, for example, was awarded the prize for developing a program against religious extremism. Many (if not all) of the award winners, were immigrants to Belgium. Someone invited a Pakistani imam to read a verse from the Quran at the podium. This is the story.

B1.2 Initial reactions

The right-wingers and neo-fascists made a big deal out of it. For them, this was a golden opportunity. Everything Muslims do anyway is a problem for them, and here they could self-righteously beat the drums of "the impartiality or neutrality of Western democracy". When others were not so neutral it was not much of a stir.[18]

The protests therefore were seemingly about the parliament being ”the temple of democracy and (it) must remain absolutely neutral," in the words of President of the Brussels parliament Rachid Madrane. Indignation after imam quotes verses from the Koran in Brussels Parliament | VRT NWS: news

B1.3 From reciting "to praying": next step of escalation

To create a wasp out of a fly 'the talk' drifted/ was steered from 'singing the Quran', to 'praying' from the platform in the parliament, getting all the more ridiculous.

□ comment: However, it is not very plausible that a vice president of NATO (Theo Francken) and "Rapporteur of this Middle East NATO group and State Secretary for Migration" (-2018) would be ignorant about the difference between praying versus reciting the Quran. Therefore, his comment above is already a ploy to obfuscate what is happening here.[21].

B1.4 From the fakery to the lies-bakery!

This is when social media got hot, 1 example:
On February 17, 2024, Mr Alejandro, (Garçia Alejandro Garçia @DukeGarfito) tried to convince the public (or himself? [19]) that some parliamentarians are subnormal, (FIRST, you dehumanize your opponent…) and he wrote on Twitter/ X, quote:

And the "subnormal" parliamentarians applaud this anti-Semitic and racist attitude.
Only in Belgium

However, he attaches the wrong Quran image to the picture. The Imam did not recite 33-26. ⇢ Go to B2.

And-He-brought-down

□ comment: It doesn't help on the course of truth to attach an image of the Audio/Video to the wrong Quran verse 33-26, which was NOT recited. This was intentional.
Who told him that this was the verse? Who are his masters?

B1.5 Lifting the controversy to a dangerous level

The Jerusalem Post published the fake story on 2024-02-17[n6] the publications mentioned below followed suit.

On the very same day (February 19, 2024), that this community award ceremony was critically reviewed on the VRT NWS news channel quoted above, the "EJC - European Jewish Congress" came out and declared that an " Imam recites verse of the Quran at Brussels parliament that calls for the killing and kidnapping of Jews".

image
EJC - European Jewish Congress

And the EJC continues:
”An Imam at the Brussels parliament began reciting a verse from the Quran that explicitly calls on Muslims to kill and take Jews captive.”

This is fake news, not surprising, we have already in [part A] analysed this verse, which is neither explicitly, nor in-explicitly calling for any such thing, which they lie about!

If they are so afraid of Muslims, why don't they talk to them? Why don't they pick up the phone and ask about the verse?[22]

EJC (European Jewish Congress)
”The Quran excerpt is verse 33:26 from the Al-Ahzab Surah (chapter).” He did not read this verse so this is a lie, he read [33-41]
Another affiliated Jewish organization (CCOJB) issued the following: ”The CCOJB notes that Imam Muhammad Ansar Butt is not an example of a ceremony honouring people for their integration.”(same EJC page)

B1.6 Spreading Fake News Internationally

It only took one day for this fake news from the Jerusalem Post to be distributed over Europe and elsewhere. Here is one example:

This is what an extreme right-wing politician in Sweden, Richard Jomshof, wrote on Twitter/X:
“Socialist and Deputy Speaker of Belgium, Hasan Koyuncu, invited an imam to parliament who quoted sura 33:26 from the Koran, which calls on Muslims to kill and capture Jews.” 2024-02-18

His source is: Imam recites Quran at Belgian parliament, calling for killing of Jews - The Jerusalem Post 2024-02-17 [9]

B2. Comment from Living Islam - Islamic Tradition

Dear reader, ask yourself:
Why would an Imam at a community award ceremony for integration read a warlike[20] verse from the Quran?

The Quran reading at the parliament was probably unusual, but it was particularly hyped up by the right-wingers[7]. When others were not so neutral, it was not much of a stir.[18]

Except for he did not. He recited the following verse, {remind yourselves of God}. 33-41

{ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا اللّٰهَ ذِكْرًا كَثِيرًا
وَسَبِّحُوهُ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا
}

{O believers! Always remember Allah often, and glorify Him morning and evening.}

33-41[6]

This is how they try to smear the Muslims, they make up lies about Islam, the Quran and even the noble Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him!).

They also elevate the crimes of often low-class immigrants with Muslim backgrounds or names, who have all kinds of problems, and then they generalise those crimes, blaming the religion of Islam!
What is worse, there are quite a lot of cases, where the security services (of diverse countries) have ensnared simpleminded people, Muslims, into the preparation and execution of terrorist deeds. One example is from the United States, where the FBI entrapped Muslims to go overboard.[26]
This is the racists' and supremacists' contribution to Western societies, this is all that they have in store, and what they can contribute to the improvement of our societies, which is less than zero…

C. Conclusion

What we are witnessing here in 2024, are European ‘political elites’ denying water, food and medicine to the starving Palestinian people in Gaza in support of their genocidal, supremacist policy, enforced by the US and the settler state of Isra-l[24], but then in face of horror, lose their mind about an Imam who reads a verse from the Quran in the parliament, reminding people turn to their creator Allah (God) and to be mindful of Him!

Those Western ‘political elites’ are not only the rightwing extremists, nationalists, racists and supremacists but are also in large parts from the 'liberal' class, those who like to propagandize about democracy, equality, the rule of law and human rights in "the European garden" but push for neocolonial, destructive policies[25] in "the jungle", as EU's J. Borell termed it[23] outside, in the Global South.

O Allah!

  1. (a.) The Jews of Banu Qurayzah who had violated their treaty with the Muslims and sided with the enemy alliance. The Prophet ﷺ asked how they wished to be judged, and they chose to be judged by their book, the Torah—in which the penalty for treason is death.
    quran.com

(b1a.) ”These were the Jews of the tribe of Qurayza, who, though they had a treaty of alliance with the holy Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him!), had perfidiously gone over to his enemies, the polytheists, in this war of the Ditch. DY[L]

(b1b.) The reference is to ”the Jewish tribe of the Banu Qurayzah. The counted among the citizens of Medina, and were bound by solemn engagements to help in the defence of the City. But on the occasion of the Confederate siege, by the Quraysh and their allies they intrigued with the enemies, and treacherously aided them. Immediately after the siege was raised and the Confederates had fled in hot haste, the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him!) turned his attention to these treacherous “friends” who had betrayed his City in the hour of danger. Y[L]

(b2.) The Banu Qurayzah where Jews from one of the tribes of Israel. Their forefathers had settled in the Hejaz long ago, seeking to follow the unlettered Prophet of whom they read in the Torah and Injeel.[16] IK[L]
     ↩

  2. (Which they had considered impregnable). Immediately, after the confederate forces had decamped, the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him!), at a special divine command, marched against the Qurayzites. DY[L]
     ↩

  3. (b3a.) □ comment: after having broken the treaty with the Muslims and conspired with their enemy at war.
(cast horror and dismay): the improvident Jews, whom the fate of their brethren should have taught to better purpose (These are the two other Jewish tribes (Banu Qaynuqa' and later Babu Nadir) who had broken their treaty with the profit and the Muslims in times of war. They had to surrender, and were evicted from Medina with their belongings.), had not calculated on the chances and necessities of a siege… (At last they) offered to surrender, on condition that their fate should be decided by the allies the Aws. DY[L] )

(b3b.) Sa’‘d, may Allah be pleased with him, said: ”My judgement will be carried out?” The messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him!) said: ”Yes.”

He said, ”And it will be carried out on those who are in this tent?” He said ”Yes.” He said ”And on those who are on this side?” Any point of towards the side where the messenger of Allah was, but he did not look directly at the messenger of Allah out of respect for him. The messenger of Allah said to him ”Yes.”

So Sa’d, may Allah be pleased with him, said: ”My judgement is that their fighters should be killed, and their children and wealth should be seized.”

The messenger of Allah said: ”You have judged according to the ruling of the Allah from above the seven heavens,” according to one report… Those that were beheaded, where between 700 and 800 of them, the children who had not yet reached adolescence[2] and the women were taken prisoner, and their wealth was seized. IK[L]

(b3c.) The Banu Qurayzah (see above b2) were filled with terror and dismay when Medina was free from the Quraysh danger. They shut themselves up in their castles, about 3 or 4 miles to the east, or north east of Medina, and sustained a siege of 25 days, after which they surrendered, stipulating, that they would abide by the decision of their fate, at the hands of Sa’‘d ibn Mu’‘az[n1], chief of the Aws tribe, with which they had been in alliance. Y[L]

(b3d.) Thereupon Sa’d, the chief of the tribe of the Aws, greatly incensed, at the perfidity (the state of being deceitful and untrustworthy) of the Jews, abjudged that the men should be put to the sword, the women and children made slaves, and their goods divided among the Muslims.

Regarding this, apparently, ‘harsh, bloody sentence,’ writes a Christian historian: ‘It must be remembered that the crime of these men was high treason against the State, during time of siege; and those who have read how Wellingtons march could be traced by the bodies of deserters and pillagers hanging from the trees, need not be surprised at the summary execution of a traitorous clan. DY[L]

(b3e.) One remarkable aspect of the whole story is that this treacherous tribe was not judged by the Muslims according to the laws of Islam, but they were judged according to the Mosaic law:[n4]

Ka’b tried to save the tribe by asking them to pledge allegiance to the Prophet, but they refused and asked to be sentenced according the to the law of the Torah. Only about five young men from the Banu Qurayzah pledged allegiance to the profit (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him!), and thus where freed. ML[L]

(b3f.) Terror (ru’‘ba) means fear, because they had supported the idolators in their war against the messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him!) and the one who knows is not like the one who does not know. They had terrified the Muslims and intended to kill them, so as to gain earthly power, but their plans backfired, the idolators ran away and the believers were victorious while the disbelievers were losers, where they had aimed for glory, they were humiliated. They wanted to eradicate the Muslims, but they were themselves eradicated. In addition to all this, they are doomed in the Hereafter, so by all accounts, they are counted as losers. IK[L]

[n2]: Imam Ahmed recorded that ’Atiyah al-Qurayzi said, "I was shown to the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him!) on the day of Qurayzah, because they were not sure about me. The prophet told them to look at me to see whether I had grown any body hair yet. They looked and saw that I had not grown any body hair, so they let me go, and I was put with the other prisoners. (This is recorded by serveral hadith narrators.) IK[L]
     ↩

  4. The question of leniency in harshness
Sa’‘d[n1] applied to them the Jewish Law of the Old Testament, not as strictly as the case warranted. In Deuteronomy, 20, 10–18 (see below → Compare the laws of Judaism), the treatment of a city, “which is very far off from thee” is prescribed to be comparatively more lenient than the treatment of a city “of those people, which the Lord thy God does give thee for an inheritance, ” meaning, which is near enough to corrupt the religion of the Jewish people. The punishment, for these is total annihilation: “thou shall save alive, nothing that breathes” (Deuteronomy, 20–16).

The more lenient treatment for far off cities is described in the next note (see [c2]). According to the Jewish standard, then, the Qurayzah deserved total extermination – of men, women and children. They where in the territory of Medina itself, and further they had broken the engagements and helped the enemy. Y[L]
     ↩

  5. (c1.) Compare the Jews’ own laws concerning the treatment of the fallen cities: Deuteronomy 20: 10–17

    Bible
10“When you draw near to a city (a “far-off” city) to fight against it, offer terms of peace to it. 11And if it responds to you peaceably and it opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall do forced labor for you and shall serve you. 12But if it makes no peace with you, but makes war against you, then you shall besiege it. 13And when the LORD your God gives it into your hand, you shall put all its males to the sword, 14but the women and the little ones, the livestock, and everything else in the city, all its spoil, you shall take as plunder for yourselves. And you shall enjoy the spoil of your enemies, which the LORD your God has given you. 15Thus you shall do to all the cities that are very far from you, which are not cities of the nations here. 16But in the cities (the “nearby” cities) of these peoples that the LORD your God is giving you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes, 17but you shall devote them to complete destruction…
    biblehub.com

(c2.) Sa‘‘d [n1] adjudged them the milder treatment of the “far-off” cities, which is thus described in the Jewish Law. Deuteronomy 20: 13–14. (See above [c1.]) The men of the Qurayzah were slain: the women were sold as captives of war, and their lands and properties were divided among the Muhajirs (emigrants from Mecca). Y[L]

(The Banu Qurayzah finally) agreed to accept the judgement of Sa’‘d ibn Mu’‘adh, the leader of Aws, because they had been their allies during the pre-Islamic period, so they thought that he would treat them kindly as ’‘Abdullah ibn Ubayy bin Salul had done for his allies of Banu Qaynuqa’, when he had asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him!) to set them free…IK668[L]

They did not know that Sa’‘d had been struck by an arrow in his medial arm vein during the campaign of Al-Khandaq (the campaign of the trenches)… (The Banu Qurayzah agreed) to be referred to him for judgement, and this was their own free choice. (Then) the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him!) called him to come from Al-Madina to pass judgement on them. When he arrived, riding on a donkey that had been specially equipped for him to ride, some of the ’‘Aws began to urge him not to be too harsh, saying, ”O Sa’‘d, they are your clients, so be kind to them, trying to soften his heart,” but he kept quiet and did not answer them. When they persisted in their request, he said: ”Now it is time for Sa’d to take to make sure that no rebuke or censure will divert him from the path of Allah,” Then they knew that he would not let them live.… IK668[L]

(When he had arrived,) the Messenger of Allah said: ”these people” and he pointed to them, ”have agreed to accept your judgement, so pass judgement on them as you wish.”  ↩

  10. Those tensions were due to the fact, that the Jewish tribes, although they were told in their own Scriptures (of the Torah) that a new prophet of monotheism would arise, could not wrap their heads and the minds about accepting Prophet Mohammed as the new prophet, and so they rejected him. They argued that a new profit would come only from their own midst, not from the "Arabs". This has also to be seen in the historical context of Jewish scribes, changing the scripture of the Torah itself.

ML put it this way: “It had long been clear that the Jews did not consider the Prophet’s covenant as binding upon them, and that most of them preferred the pagan idolaters to the Muslim worshippers of the one God.…” So revelations, came down, stating: 3–118. This is from Martin Lings, “Mohammad, his life based on the earliest sources”, page 160.

  11. This is surprising, as it means that those Jewish tribes, who were supposed to worship only one God as the most important tenet of their religion (Judaism), had no problem to ally themselves with polytheists (see footnote above[n5]), those who worship a number of so-called gods, all this in order to increase their wealth in this world. 15. The Jerusalem Post is also a very interesting paper. On the page (see link below), they quote some of the utterances by Diaspora Affairs Minister.
Regarding the governments of France and Belgium the Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli boasted:

Belgium along with France lead the most pro-Hamas and anti-Israel line in all of Europe, and it’s no wonder that with them radical Islam is rampant,” Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli told The Jerusalem Post. “Turning their back on Israel has been clarified as a difficult strategic mistake.”
Chikli added that he hopes that the pro-Hamas government would be changed in the future for one that champions western values.

  20. Regarding 'warlike' verses in the Quran:
the message of Allah (God) to humankind has to cover all major possibilities in life in this world, one of them is regrettably war. Therefore, there are a number of verses teaching the believers and Muslims behave in wars - the allowed and the forbidden (HARAM), this verse is one of them, with an historic reference to what happened in the early days of Islam.

As always, the interpretation especially of such crucial verses is not left to the casual reader, devoid of knowledge of the Arabic language, of grammar, retoric and not the least of general, basic Islamic teaching.

    - 2. The ICJ (Invoke the Genocide Convention) has decided that Israel is suspected of plausible genocide in Gaza.
    - 3. When one group of people like Isra-el Jews are privileged in the state by different laws, and supported by the state, then this is Jewish supremacism. (Def: supremacism: the belief that a particular group, especially one determined by race, religion, or sex, is superior and should therefore dominate society.)
